Cross-country is a wonderfully active way to enjoy the outdoors and is incredibly popular throughout the Tennengau Region..
Wether your preference is for classic style or Skating technique, or if you are in the mood to tackle an alpine trail, with 170 Kilometers of trails to choose from you are guaranteed to find “just what the doctor ordered”! There are actually 10 different towns in Tennengau where you can indulge your love for cross-country skiing. The different trails appeal to every taste, with something for everyone, rookie or pro.
Yet another great tip: Our trails, which you are welcome to explore after dark. You can find them both in Abtenau as well in Annaberg-Lungötz. Exact descriptions of the trails can be obtained from here at the local Tourist Office.
And naturally, you also have the opportunity to learn XC skiing from the basics up. Take part in a cross-country course and learn just how much joy this sport can give you. Cross-country skiers are also welcome to ride the free Tennengau ski bus, providing convenient transportation to the various trail heads.

Ski touring as an alternative to regular skiing:
It isn’t just XC skiers who find something to their taste here in Tennengau. A wide range of choices await ski tourers as well. The Gosaukamm and the Tennengebirge, in particular, invite you to embark on a wonderful ski tour out across hill- and mountainsides covered deep in snow.
Nothing is more beautiful than enjoying pristine nature and slicing through the snow away from the pistes.
Off-piste ski touring at the foot of the Dachstein is something that has to be practiced. Have little to no experience ? Not to worry, you can still join in the fun. Simply take part in a ski-touring course and learn the basics from experienced local mountain- and ski-touring guides. At that point, nothing more stands in the way of your personal ski tour.
